About Elizabeth
My name is Elizabeth Meyer zu Heringdorf. With over 20 years' experience as a journalist, translator, writer, proofreader, and editor, I am passionate about words and putting them in the right places.
I’m American, a native of the Boston area. I started my career in the United States as a technical writer, editor, and journalist. At my last company, Hyperion Solutions (now part of Oracle Corporation), I won the “Grab an Oar” award six times in recognition of my team spirit and contributions to the company.
Since moving to Germany in 2002, I have been a freelance editor and proofreader for both individuals and companies in Germany and abroad, including science and business publisher Springer Verlag.
My experience
I have 20 years’ experience as an English-language writer and editor. I’m fast, flexible, reliable, and am able to edit precisely without changing either the content or the meaning.
I’m also versatile. I have experience in many different fields, including business documents, software publications, and academic texts.
I have 10 years’ experience working with native German speakers, turning their English-language documents from “Germanized English” into publication-quality texts.
My qualifications
- B.A. in English literature, University of Massachusetts at Amherst (USA), magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa
- M.S. in Journalism, Columbia University (USA)
When I’m not proofreading and editing…
I live in Essen with my husband, young daughter, and elderly cat. In my free time, I enjoy reading, especially biographies and old cookbooks, e.g., The Way to a Man’s Heart. I am also an avid photographer and currently knitting a 64-piece afghan.
